Zohran Mamdani Pledges a 'Fresh Chapter' for The Big Apple in First Speech
On his first day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “transform” New York City, promising “a different age” and an audacious start to his administration.
A Historic Mayor
The new democratic socialist, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first mayor born in Africa. He also made history by being the inaugural to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.

- A halt to rent increases for approximately 1 million households
